New bamboo

Toyella was really impressed with the Ekobo brand. They're the company behind the range of Mello stools that we stock.
The Mellos struck us as an ideal children's stool for the bedroom, lounge or playroom. Their high gloss finish, sleek curves and vivid colours attracted us. They looked like large sweets.
But it's the environmental story behind Ekobo Mellos that excited us further.
"It's bamboo" they said. That was the first surprise. This contemporary product didn't look like bamboo.
Bamboo is one of the earth's most renewable resources and stronger than oak. It's fast growing, naturally regenerative and flourishes without the need for pesticides, fertilisers or herbicides. Bamboo actually recycles carbon dioxide and produces 30% more oxygen than most tree alternatives.
Ekobo set its stall out to bring modern eco-friendly products to the market focusing on bamboo tableware and other household furnishings. All 'crafted' (not factory produced) from bamboo, the Mellos are an addition to Ekobo's stylish range.
Mellos are handmade in Vietnam where Ekobo ensure a fair income to locally skilled artisans. This sourcing ensures high quality levels while avoiding the larger environmental impact of mass production and workforce transportation.
Virtually all of Ekobo's range is transported by boat rather than air so reducing the carriage carbon footprint. The packaging is made from recycled cardboard and delivered on second hand pallets (and we can vouch for that!).
And yes, that high gloss finish is 100% natural too, created over a two week period from numerous natural lacquering and pigmentation stages.
The Ekobo Mello has a great story. It's a perfect blend of design and ecology.
